Club History

Headington Athletic (formerly Oxfam Athletic) started life in the year 2000. A group of enthusiastic Oxfam workers, based in the Summertown offices, organised a mini football tournament after watching Euro 2000. They decided that they would continue playing together and recruited experienced FA Coach Jamie Spooner.

After a couple of seasons playing friendlies Oxfam became a founder member of the Berks & Bucks Women's League. In their first official season they failed to register any points and ended up the league's wooden spoons. They did however gradually get the scores down as that year went on and looked increasingly likely to register a point.

With hopes high Oxfam started the following season as firm underdogs. In their first league game of that season they pulled off an incredible 3-1 win against their local rivals Milton United. This was followed up with two equally impressive draws against the previous season's league winners, Wycombe Wanderers.

After losing several players to world travelling Oxfam were forced to abandon their policy of not advertising for players and only using those who came to us through word of mouth. We managed to recruit four new faces and faced the upcoming season with renewed hope and vigour. After a period of settling in, Oxfam's new players inspired those who had played from the beginning and the team started to grind out the results and steadily climbed the table to finish an amazing fourth place. Our league had amalgamated three counties and was renamed the Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League

In 2005/6 Oxfam Athlectic set itself a target of finishing higher up the league than the previous year. We started the season well and remained highly placed in the league for most of it only faltering in the last three games to end up a respectable third place.
